Coming Before the Father......

Matthew 6:5-15

New International Version (NIV)

Prayer

“And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.
“This, then, is how you should pray:
“‘Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
10 your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
11 Give us today our daily bread.
12 And forgive us our debts,
as we also have forgiven our debtors.
13 And lead us not into temptation,[a]
but deliver us from the evil one.[b]
14 For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. 15 But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.

Footnotes:

  1. Matthew 6:13 The Greek for temptation can also mean testing.
  2. Matthew 6:13 Or from evil; some late manuscripts one, / for yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.
Prayer is a private, personal thing.... I get that... makes me think about communicating with my own Father.... whether it is asking him for something or thanking him for something... or just having a moment with him in conversation.... I know better than to do it when he is distracted or in a crowd for all to see and hear.... If I treasure my communication to my earthly father so.... how much more my Heavenly Father!!!

I also know better than to go on rambling and wasting his time....and he most of the time has no idea what I am going to say..... how much more so my Father who knew me before I was born....who knows the desires of my heart before I ask.... who knows the number of hairs on my head.... How mush more him....

The Lord's Prayer........ Breakdown!!!

Our Father......
It is only as children of God that we have the right and privilege to come before him at all!

Hallowed be your name........
Despite the fact that he is our father....we still need to acknowledge him as God and recognise who he is to us....Fear him in love....

Your will be done......
Accept that he knows best and his will is best..... trust him and be willing to follow his guidance and accept his will for us and not our own desires....

Give us today......
He is the giver of all things.... all we recieve from him we should be thankful. We should also acknowledge and trust him as our provider.... it is not for us to worry about what we will eat or wear... God... The Almighty....Maker of Heaven and Earth is our provider!

Forgive us......
We are human and bound to sin.... for if we say we have no sin we are liars and the truth is not in us.... therefore we need God's forgiveness..... he alone can forgive and save us from death.

As we also forgive......
We live in a world with mortals bound to sin.... no one is perfect... we all make mistakes.... we should be willing to forgive just as we are forgiven... this may not always be easy but in Christ all things are possible.... we need to make the effort to forgive!

Lead us not.....
The Lord is our Guide! We need to trust in the Lord's guidance... where he leads we should follow... his word is a light unto our paths.... When we follow his guidance we are safe wherever we go.... wherever he leads us.... no matter what we find there....

Deliver us....
The Lord is our Deliverer! whatever we are going through, at whatever point in time... he will deliver us!

Thank you Lord, I could not ask for anything more....
